At the AFCON 2023 opening ceremony, Yemi Alade, a well-known figure in Nigerian highlife and afropop, will perform.
The singer announced this on her official Twitter account on January 11, 2024, referring to it as a “dream come true.”
On Saturday, January 13, 2024, the 2023 AFCON competition, which will be held in Cote d’Ivoire, will open.
Alade, who stressed the importance of prayer, revealed that she had always dreamed of performing in front of a large stadium full of football fans.
“I cannot overstate the significance of prayer and speaking your desires into reality,” Alade wrote. Since 2016, I had wished to perform at the stadium for football celebrations surrounded by 100’s of dancers and millions of people.
Every year as plans were being made for the football championship, a lot of calls were received, but none of them were positive. I never mentioned it, but at some point I felt like my team was pushing them away 🤣, but I had a gut feeling to let them carry out their duties.
7 years after, I’m performing at AFCON. Indeed, it’s an honor and a dream come true ❤️, and this is only the beginning!God bless my group and Jehovah in particular, who is my ship’s unfailing commander.
