Residents of Lagos State were seen complaining to President Bola Tinubu, who is now on vacation in the state, in a video that has since gone viral.
The incident happened when the president’s motorcade was traveling through Lagos Island’s Idumota market.
The crowd’s noticeable lack of excitement during the president’s convoy’s passage through the busy market is captured on camera.
Traders and onlookers were heard chanting “Ebi npa wa oo,” which translates to “we are hungry,” as a means of voicing their complaints in Yoruba, in place of the customary applause and waving.
The people who were standing on each side of the street used the occasion to express their worries about the financial difficulties they are currently experiencing.
There was evident dissatisfaction among the spectators as many chose to highlight their own problems rather than give the president the customary round of applause.
People could be observed telling their tales of financial hardship as the caravan moved through the always bustling market.
