Ms. Plaatjies, a teacher, has won over many hearts by addressing the inequality in her classroom by buying shoes for students who couldn’t afford them.
The teacher, who teaches at Bolekehang Intermediate School in the Free State, posted a heartfelt video on her TikTok account last week, highlighting the difficulties that some of her children are facing as the schools reopened on January 17.
In the video, students in her class could be seen sporting ripped, worn-out shoes—one student even wore sneakers in place of the authorized school shoes.
As she opens the boxes containing brand-new school shoes and places them in front of each pupil, Ms. Plaatjies is seen in the video.
The teacher claims that her goal is to make sure that every student in her class has an equal appearance, irrespective of their financial situation.
She stated, “They should be treated equally in my class even though they come from different homes.”
