The upcoming film “Water and Gari” features the debut of female music phenomenon Tiwa Savage in Nollywood.
“Water and Garri,” the movie, will soon be available on Amazon Prime Video. Produced by Unbound Studios and Everything Savage, the film is the award-winning star’s first feature film.
Meji Alabi’s latest film, Water and Garri, is the latest in Prime Video Nigeria’s expanding library of excellent Nollywood content.
The new movie centers on the aspirational fashion designer Aisha (Tiwa Savage), who spends ten years abroad in the US before returning home to mourn the loss of a family member.
Aisha must learn to live with her scars and face the shame she has left behind while reuniting with family, old friends, and her previous love in light of the changes occurring at home, including an upsurge in violence and tensions.
With a cast that includes accomplished actors like Mike Afolarin (Far From Home), Andrew Bunting (Dynamite), and Jemima Osunde (New Money), the film, which was filmed in neighboring Ghana, blends storytelling with cinematography.
Regarding the new movie, Prime Video’s Director of Content Acquisition, Ayanna Lonian, said, “Water and Garri provides it with a distinct angle. Audiences around the world are hungry for well-made, contemporary African stories.”
“Tiwa Savage, in the role of the lead, and Meji Alabi, the director of the film, have both had an outstanding debut alongside the rest of the highly skilled crew and actors.
Hit song composer Tiwa Savage talked about how excited she was about the film.
“My film is a dream come true, from conception to worldwide release on Prime Video. I can’t wait for my followers and more casual viewers to see this raw side of me that I have never displayed. I can’t wait to tell the world about Meji Alabi’s amazing adaptation of the story,” the speaker continued.
Producer and Unbound Studios executive Jimi Adesanya remarked, “We are happy to cooperate with Prime Video who grasped this cultural milestone honoring the cross-power of film and music, especially out of Africa at this exciting time.”
