Popular singer David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, has been described to as a gospel artist by Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, the founder of the Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church, often known as SPAC Nation.
Adegboyega clarified that the word “gospel” simply means “good news” in an interview with the Off The Record podcast, which went viral on Monday. He feels that Davido exemplifies this in his music.
In response to criticism regarding his choice to invite secular musicians rather than gospel performers to perform at his recent birthday celebration, the flamboyant preacher made the comments.
Additionally, Adegboyega discussed his strong relationship with Zlatan, a Nigerian artist whom he referred to as his “son.”
“Gospel implies good news,” he stated. There are gospel artists everywhere. Davido performs gospel music. Ever hear the saying, “Because I stand strong?”
“What I had then was my friends—friends who are there through thick and thin,” he said, defending his selection of artists. “I just want to be there and perform for an hour,” Davido told me. I’m buddies with them. None of them were paid by me. I will offer my buddies platforms because they adore me.
He said that rather than fostering connections, gospel musicians were too quick to criticize his decisions.
“Is that a church?” is a common way for people to criticize me if gospel musicians aren’t my pals. What ought I to do? Use a rope to drag them?
“My pals will be present.” Everyone there was a buddy of mine. Since his parents lived in my home and his children are my children, Zlatan is like a son to me. “Well, because you are not gospel singers, let me go and find some gospel artists who are criticizing me and make them sing,” should I say now?
“My friends will always sing at my events, and the next one will be bigger because my friends list is getting bigger,” Adegboyega said, highlighting the fact that his friends will always take center stage at his gatherings.
