Nigerians have received a strong warning from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) not to misuse the country’s currency, the naira.
The warning was issued in the wake of social media star Bobrisky’s conviction for crimes involving improper management of Naira.
The Lagos court sentenced Bobrisky, who is well-known for his contentious online persona, to six months in prison without the possibility of fines for his role in the Naira’s misuse.
The EFCC has responded to this development by restating its opposition to these kinds of operations and highlighting how seriously it takes currency abuse.
The EFCC made their position quite apparent on Twitter. The anti-graft agency continued by issuing warnings to those abusing Naira.
“Refrain from Abusing Naira” Conviction will convey the message if preaching fails to do so.
