According to a Forbes Magazine release, South African business tycoon Johann Rupert has surpassed Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote to become Africa’s richest man.
Aliko Dangote fell to the second spot, according to the Forbes Daily billionaires ranking platform, which tracks daily changes in the net worth of high-net-worth people worldwide. By the start of 2024, his wealth had dropped from $13.5 billion in 2023 to $9.5 billion.
In a similar vein, the financial magazine’s billionaire list saw Nigerian billionaires Rabiu Abdulsamad and Mike Adenuga drop in the rankings.
Patrice Motsepe, who was in the top ten in 2023, was not included in the list of the top ten richest men in 2024, and Nigerian Mike Adenuga fell to the tenth spot.
The absence of any women in the top ten richest list at the start of the year is one notable shift in Forbes’ ranking of the wealthiest people in Africa.
The decrease in Dangote’s wealth is the reason for the depreciation of the Naira and other economic problems.
Johann Rupert & Family’s fortune dropped from $10.7 billion to $10.3 billion in the 2024 rankings.
