Scholarship: The son of a bricklayer who was unable to pay for tuition returns to school.

After a heartwarming story, Idris Abdulrasheed Adeiza, the son of a resolute bricklayer, has formally returned to school at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

The young student, who is from Kogi State, received a remarkable score of 323 on the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which led to admission to study software engineering.

Idris’s tale became viral on X (previously Twitter) after it was made public that, in spite of his outstanding academic performance, he was concerned about his future because of financial difficulties. Because he was a bricklayer, his father was unable to pay for college.

Idris’s education was sponsored by Educare CEO and philanthropist Alex Onyia. Posting pictures of Idris at FUTA and expressing appreciation for the young man’s perseverance, Onyia shared the positive update on X.

“Today, Idris officially starts his university education at the Federal University of Technology, Akure. He is among those who scored above 300 in recent JAMB but had no means of going to the university. I love his determination with strong energy towards success, and I pray that he excels and impacts different nations,” Onyia wrote.
