The Lagos State administration imposed strict measures on Friday, January 5, seizing items that vendors had set up along busy roads.
The emotional moment when vendors begged for compassion as their items were being seized was caught on camera and is making the rounds on the internet.
Special agents from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps and the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) carried out the crackdown (LAGESC).
Street vendors operating on several important thoroughfares, such as Agege Motor Road, Old Secretariat GRA Ikeja, Awolowo Way, Alausa Secretariat, Agidingbi Jakande Road inward LTV 8, Ojodu Berger, and Fagba Road, were the focus of the operation.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, stressed the importance of enforcement.
According to him;
“Enforcement cannot be a sensitive topic for us. We have issued repeated warnings to vendors asking them to refrain from setting up shop or selling items on the promenade, setbacks, or main road. The city is defaced, primarily for public safety.
Awolowo Way, Agidingbi Jakande Road inward LTV 8, Ojodu Berger, Fagba Road, Agege Motor Road, Old Secretariat GRA Ikeja, and Special Operators of KAI/LAGESC again forced out street vendors early on Friday.
