Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), is charged with lying after recounting an incident in which God joined him for a cup of tea.
A video that has been circulating on social media shows the church’s 2019 “Swimming in Glory” Holy Ghost service.
In the video, Pastor Adeboye related how he once had tea with his wife in Ilorin and had a spiritual experience.
The preacher said that after he and his wife had two cups each from their five-cup teapot, God told him to drink the last cup.
Adeboye’s narration of how God came together to share a cup of tea “Years ago, we were enjoying breakfast in Ilorin. We prepare tea in this pot over here. As far as I can recall, there were five cups total, and my spouse and I split the final cup after finishing the first two.
“I chose the pot to take the third one, and the cup was empty, so I took one, she took one, I took one, and she took one.
“I was unable to recall when she took the third one.” My tea disappeared. And I clearly heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Son, you invited me to join you when you prayed.”

“If you are not a spirited person, you cannot relate,” observed akinwale2412. He said what he said, and I completely believe him.
“Pastor Adeboye has no reason to lie,” said ayonitemi3. I hope that social media won’t let us overlook God’s gifts. 🙏
“I don’t understand why this man keeps lying at his age,” said lakesideblackmale. “This is absolutely ludicrous; how realistic can it be for an imaginary deity to be drinking tea 🍵 ☕️ 🫖 with him and his wife 🤷🏻♂️?”
“It baffles me that some of you aren’t afraid to speak evil of an anointed man of God,” nkesii._ wrote.
