Well-known Nollywood actor Nonso Diobi has addressed long-running rumors of similarities and competition with his coworker Mike Ezuruonye.
Nonso talked candidly with Labista about their entwined paths in the film industry, touching on issues like their distinct on-screen chemistry, fan-driven competition, and mistaken identification.
Nonso disclosed that he was the first to join Nollywood and that he and Mike had a pivotal role in his first movie together. He acknowledged that because of their similar looks, people frequently confused the two, with many taking one for the other.
We appear a lot alike in photos. If I don’t look closely, I sometimes mistake Mike for me when I see a poster with him on it. I experienced that frequently, and he did as well,” Nonso said.
He went on to say that although the frequent misidentifications originally annoyed him, they eventually helped them connect.
Nonso disclosed that they took use of the circumstance rather than allowing these parallels to sow discord. They persuaded filmmakers to pair them, resulting in iconic on-screen duos that capitalized on their similarity and chemistry.
“Just the way supporters feel about us, we feel the same way too,” he remarked in response to their anticipation of rivalry. It was challenging at first, but we managed to figure it out and make it a bond.
His remarks have also won him admirers, who have commended his maturity and readiness to honor a colleague rather than compete.
