Legendary Wrestler Rey Misterio passed away

On December 20, 2024, Rey Misterio Sr., a well-known Mexican wrestler and the uncle of WWE star Rey Mysterio Jr., died at the age of 66.

His death was verified by his family and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, a Mexican wrestling organization.

He was a major figure in Mexico’s lucha libre culture and was born Miguel Ángel López Díaz.

He performed for renowned organizations including Pro Wrestling Revolution, Tijuana Wrestling, and the World Wrestling Association (WWA) during his nearly fifty-year career, making significant contributions to the sport of wrestling.

Apart from his personal achievements, Misterio Sr. was a well-liked coach for aspiring wrestlers.

He was instrumental in helping to shape the careers of a number of celebrities, including his nephew, three-time world champion Rey Mysterio Jr. of the WWE. Notable characters including Damian 666, Halloween, Psicosis, and Konnan were also trained by him.

The cause of his death is unknown, however it happened soon after Rey Mysterio Jr.’s father, Robert Gutierrez, passed away.
