Hafsat Surajo, a 24-year-old housewife, has been taken into custody in Kano on suspicion of killing 38-year-old Nafiu Hafiz with a knife after the latter tried to stop her from killing herself.
In a statement issued on Friday, December 22, 2023, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, acknowledged the event.
The statement claimed that Hafsat Surajo had admitted to repeatedly stabbing the victim with a knife. Hafiz allegedly tried to stop her from killing herself, which was her stated motivation.
The terrible event was discovered when Hafizu Salisu of Bauchi Metropolis informed the police that he had gotten a disturbing contact from the accused’s husband, Dayyabu Abdullahi, telling him of his brother Nafiu Hafiz’s passing.
When the family arrived at the Unguwa Uku Quarters in Kano, they found Hafiz’s lifeless body covered in several stab wounds.
The Divisional Police Officer of Zaria Road Division, SP Abubakar Chika Zaki, was immediately given the order by Commissioner of Police CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel to assemble a team of detectives to look into the situation.
After a short time, the body was taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where a physician pronounced Hafiz dead.

“After conducting additional research at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Hafsat confessed that she was the only one who could have carried out the deed, stabbing the deceased multiple times on his body with a knife when he was stopping her from killing herself.
The deceased corpse and cover were packaged and concealed by her husband, Dayyabu Abdullahi, 38, of the same house, and their gateman, Mallam Adam, 65.
