In protest of Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat’s ongoing arrest in relation to the terrible stampede at a children’s funfair, supporters of the well-known radio host have marched to the streets of Ibadan.
At least 36 children were killed in the tragedy, and Hamzat, Queen Naomi, the event planner, and other participants are facing murder charges.
The demonstrators, who were mostly mothers and women, voiced their indignation at the detention and called for Hamzat’s immediate release in a widely shared video. Many were observed yelling “Free Oriyomi Hamzat” in support of the media personality.
One protester voiced the sentiment of many, saying, “His only offense was providing for the needy. Oriyomi Hamzat must not be jailed!”
An event intended for 5,000 youngsters was attended by an overwhelming 7,500 individuals, which led to the terrible rush. Before all security measures could be put in place, the gathering got out of control and resulted in a tragic death toll.
Viral film has given credit to Hamzat, who was present at the event, for his attempts to separate the throng and rescue victims. Despite this, fans have harshly criticized his arrest, claiming that he was wrongfully implicated.
As the case progresses, Hamzat’s supporters continue to demand justice and maintain that his arrest is unjustified.
