Congratulations are in order for Nigerian actress Funke Akindele, whose latest film “A tribe called Judah” became the first in Nollywood history to earn one billion naira at the box office.
The actor-turned-politician is now winning multiple awards in recognition of her significant contribution to the Nigerian film industry.
She became well-known for playing the character “Jenifa” in a comedy-drama in 2008. As a producer, she continued the series after beginning her own adaptation of Jenifa’s diaries.
She also had a brief career in politics, having run for deputy governor of Lagos in the 2023 governor’s race under the PDP.
She is currently the first Nigerian to ever surpass the most grossing Nollywood film record.
Her productions included “A tribe called Judah,” “Battle on Buka Street,” and “Omo Ghetto: The Saga,” the first three biggest grossing films.
