EPL: Fulham holds Arsenal as the title push slows

Arsenal settled for a 1-1 draw at Fulham, missing an opportunity to get closer to Premier League leaders Liverpool.

At Craven Cottage on Sunday, the Gunners were unable to penetrate Fulham’s defense despite controlling possession.

A possible late winner was also rejected by VAR.

In the fifteenth minute, Raul Jimenez finished past Aaron Ramsdale after getting behind Jakub Kiwior thanks to a sharp feed from Kenny Tete, giving Fulham the lead.

Bukayo Saka’s close-range attempt was the most noteworthy opportunity of the first half as Arsenal replied with intense pressure but were unable to take advantage of it.

Early in the second half, a set piece gave them the equalizer.

Following Declan Rice’s precise corner, Kai Havertz’s header was deflected into the net by William Saliba.

Thomas Partey wasted a fantastic opportunity to give Arsenal the lead as they pressed for a victory.

Saka appeared to have put the Gunners ahead in stoppage time, but Gabriel Martinelli’s offside position throughout the buildup caused VAR to deny the goal.

Liverpool has a game in hand and is now six points ahead of Arsenal as a result of the outcome.
