June 5 is the date set by a Federal High Court in Lagos for the report of settlement in a lawsuit involving famous bartender Pascal Okechukwu, also referred to as Cubana Chief Priest, and allegations of naira abuse.
On April 17, Okechukwu was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with three charges of allegedly spraying and tampering with naira notes during a social event at the Eko Hotel in Lagos.
He gave N10 million in bail after entering a not guilty plea to the charge.
The matter was therefore postponed to May 2 for the trial and hearing of the preliminary objection by Justice Kehinde Ogundare.
On Thursday, when the matter was called, Mr. Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN) announced the defendant’s appearance, and Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari represented the prosecution.
The defense attorney told the judge that the parties were trying to reach a settlement and that they had filed an application to have the case resolved in accordance with Section 14(2) of the EFCC Act.
He informed the court that in the event that the prosecution verified the position as accurate, the defense would need to request the removal of its preliminary objection in order to facilitate a reconciliation.
In response, the prosecutor informed the court that the application was still being reviewed and affirmed the defense attorneys’ position.
After taking a stance, the defense attorney requested that the preliminary objection be withdrawn because the prosecution had not objected, and the court agreed.
As a result, the court postponed the case until June 5 in order to receive the settlement report.
According to the accusation, the defendant danced at the social event held at Eko Hotels and Suites and tampered with N500 worth of monies.
The Central Bank Act of 2007’s Section 21(1) is broken by this offense.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the EFCC was successful in getting well-known transvestite Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, found guilty on similar charges on April 5. As a result, he was given a six-month prison sentence.
