After publicly endorsing his former teammate Mason Mount, Reece James has drawn criticism from some members of the club’s fan base.
This comes after Mount had his most recent injury setback at Manchester United.
Twelve minutes into the Manchester derby, the midfield player—who left Chelsea for United last summer in a move that infuriated many Blues supporters—was ejected from the field.
James, the captain of Chelsea, posted an encouraging message on Instagram while discussing his own injury struggles
“I have experienced disappointment after disappointment, but not many people can relate to what you’re going through.
“Dude, it’s so lonely and difficult! Stay strong and get well soon, brother! You’ll be back to your best, I’m positive!
Despite the message’s sensitivity and sense of solidarity, some Chelsea supporters were eager to blame James on X.
Critiques ranged from accusing him of backing a “snake” to demanding that he be removed from his leadership.
Others defended James in spite of the criticism, underscoring the poisonous nature of the fandom.
“The reaction to this encapsulates up individuals in this fanbase,” said one person.
The dispute arises as James, who has suffered from a succession of hamstring problems, continues his own injury battle.
But under Enzo Maresca’s leadership, Chelsea has flourished in his absence and is currently close to the top of the Premier League standings before Christmas.
