Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has sent a warning to fans about the growing problem of piracy in the film business.
On social media, the box office champion, whose latest film Everybody Loves Jenifa will be released in theaters on December 13th, urged Nigerians to oppose piracy.
In a poignant letter, Funke denounced the practice of filming recordings at movie theaters, calling it piracy and urging people to stop since it hurts the business.
“DO NOT STOP PIRACY! It is piracy to record brief videos at movie theaters! Stop it, please! We are dying of piracy! I put a lot of effort into this project. I’m begging you, please, don’t get caught encouraging piracy!” she wrote.
Funke highlighted the terrible effects of piracy on filmmakers while revealing the amount of time and money she has put into the film.
She emphasized security measures implemented to combat piracy throughout the distribution of her film, including the arrest of defaulters, as she concluded her appeal.
