After serving 38 years in jail in Syria, Osama Bashir Hassan al-Bataynah, a Jordanian, has been reunited with his family.
Soufian al-Kodat, a representative of the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, revealed this on Tuesday, pointing out that it follows the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad.
He said the individual had been discovered memory-impaired and unconscious in Syria.
Kodat added that the man had been incarcerated ever since his abduction in 1986, when he was only eighteen, was reported by his family.
“He was handed up to border officials at the Jaber border crossing (with Jordan) after being moved from Damascus,” he said.
Keep in mind that the rebels who overthrew Assad on Sunday also freed thousands of prisoners and opened the jails.
Assad has long been accused by civil society organizations of leading a cruel regime that includes arbitrary arrests, torture, and prisoner murder.
