Timi Dakolo, a seasoned artist, talks about how he first met his wife, Busola, and how she used to feel ashamed every time he picked her up with the branded Picanto he had won from Idols.
According to the artist of the popular song “Iyawo mi,” he first met his wife at church, where she initially rejected his overtures.
Nevertheless, he persisted in his pursuit of her.
As the winner of the first season of Idols West Africa in 2007, he remembered that she would frequently feel ashamed when he came to pick her up in the branded Picanto he had won.
Timi Dakolo said …
“I met my wife in the church. I went to her and asked her to be my date for a ball. She gave me her number but wasn’t picking up the phone when I called. I kept going to the area hoping to see her again. Then I saw her one day and I asked her why was she not picking my calls and she said her phone got stolen.
“I sympathised with her and we became friends. I started developing feelings for her and she wanted to friend-zone me but I refused. I suffered to win her love. I was taking her to work to and fro. At one time, she used to be embarrassed whenever I picked her up with the branded Picanto I won from Nigerian Idols. I said, ‘Okay, don’t worry. I will shock you. Don’t look down on me.’ And I did.”
The singer and Busola were married in 2012, and they have three lovely children together.
