Tiwa Savage, a Nigerian Afrobeats artist, talks candidly about the ongoing criticism she receives for her style choices, especially because of her advanced age.
During a recent interview on the Receipts podcast, the 44-year-old musician and single mother expressed her anger about the unfair treatment she experiences as a Nigerian celebrity.
Tiwa Savage pointed out that although Beyoncé, who is also in her 40s, is praised for her attractiveness and self-assurance, she frequently faces age-shaming for dressing similarly.
They insult me for my age every day. They say, “How can you be wearing a bikini for a woman your age?” Because I have a body, I can,” she remarked.
People in America don’t age-shame Beyoncé since she’s in her forties and wears bikinis. For her age, they would say, “Black doesn’t crack.” It’s more widely recognized when you look nice as you age,” she continued.
The singer also responded to the constant accusations that her son will eventually have an unfavorable opinion of her wardrobe choices. “My son is going to be like, my mum is a powerful and gorgeous woman,” she said, dismissing this worry.
