The use of hair relaxers has drawn criticism from a Nigerian doctor, Dr. @gynemedics, who asserts that the product plays a major role in the formation of fibroids in women.
The doctor clarified in a post that has generated a lot of conversation that one of the main causes of the high prevalence of fibroids in African women is the regular use of hair relaxers.
He pointed out that a lot of women use relaxers to tame and soften their hair, which is sometimes referred to as “stubborn” because of its texture.
Numerous studies conducted over the years have demonstrated that the chemicals in hair relaxers are hazardous and provide serious health hazards, according to Dr. @gynemedics.
These substances have also been connected to a number of other health problems, including as different types of cancer, in addition to the growth of uterine fibroids.
The doctor claimed that hair relaxers, which are popular among African women, contain harmful chemicals that seep into the skin and raise the risk of fibroid, anemia, and other conditions by at least 17%.
He went on to say that women frequently expose themselves to dangerous products in an attempt to smooth and tame their natural hair.
