Jose Mourinho has demanded that the Premier League’s inquiry into Manchester City’s 115 alleged violations of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations be conducted fairly.
The Fenerbahce manager says he has no animosity toward his former opponent, Pep Guardiola, but he feels that he and other smaller clubs and managers have had to deal with more stringent financial constraints.
“Pep and I worked together for three years, and we know we love each other,” Mourinho stated during a press conference.
“That I wish for them to be demoted is untrue. I do want justice, that much is true. When small teams go above their allotted budget by five to ten euros, FFP may penalize them.
“When I was in Roma, I too struggled because of the limitations. We are not hostile toward one another; justice is all I desire.
Days ago, the Premier League wrapped up its hearing investigating City’s alleged violations; a decision is anticipated in February 2025.
If City is found guilty, possible punishments can include demotion, penalties, or point deductions.
Mourinho’s remarks coincide with rumors that Manchester United would receive the 2017–18 championship in retroactive form. Mourinho hailed the season as one of his best managerial accomplishments after leading United to second place behind City.
Despite the fact that Guardiola and Mourinho have had many arguments over their careers, the Fenerbahce manager stressed that personal animosities shouldn’t overshadow the question of justice.
