After just five months in the position, Dan Ashworth’s tenure as Manchester United’s sporting director has abruptly ended.
The decision, which was made in consultation with chief executive Omar Berrada, came after United’s Saturday night Premier League game against Nottingham Forest.
At first, Ashworth—who left Newcastle United to join United on July 1—was regarded as a crucial player in the team’s reconstruction.
He was in charge of recruiting, operations, and football performance.
However, he reportedly left early due to problems that arose under the new organization headed by Sir Dave Brailsford and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Remember how Ashworth helped United spend almost £200 million on players like Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, and Manuel Ugarte during a busy summer transfer window?
Nevertheless, his position was untenable given United’s recent on- and off-field difficulties.
