Following yet another missed penalty that led to Real Madrid’s 2-1 loss to Athletic Club at San Mames, Kylian Mbappe has acknowledged his difficulties.
After saving a penalty in a 2-0 Champions League loss to Liverpool, the French player has now missed two straight chances to score from the penalty spot.
Julen Agirrezabala, the goalkeeper for Athletic Club, made a crucial stop that increased the pressure on Mbappe, who has had a lackluster start at Real Madrid.
Carlo Ancelotti, the manager, publicly backed his player after the game, stressing the value of support during trying times.
In an Instagram post, Mbappe also addressed the matter, writing:
“Unfavorable outcome. A major error in a match where every little thing matters.
“I accept whole accountability for it. It’s a challenging period, but now is the ideal moment to make a shift and demonstrate my identity.
The Frenchman will have another chance to convince himself when Real Madrid plays Girona on Saturday night.
