Omolola Bowoto, a Nigerian woman attending school in the UK, started a GoFundMe campaign to keep herself from leaving the college since she owes money for tuition.
Omolola, a master’s student at the University of Essex in England, revealed in a TikTok video that she is just five months away from graduating and that, should her admittance be revoked, she runs the risk of losing all of her hard work and achievement.
According to her GoFundMe page, “Help Lola Graduate this Year,” family issues and the depreciation of the Nigerian Naira are the main causes of her financial difficulties.
“It is discouraging to find myself in this situation, but I am still determined to finish my education. The depreciation of the naira and family financial difficulties have reduced my ability to pay for my tuition”.
I sincerely request your assistance in any manner you can, whether it be by making a monetary donation, telling your network about our effort, or just lending a supportive word. It really does make a difference, and I appreciate any help you may provide,” she added.
Omolola disclosed that in order to pay the remaining unpaid tuition, an urgent sum of £15,400 (about N17.6 million) is needed, even though she has already raised £5,300 (about N6 million) on her own.
Using the hashtag #HelpLolaGraduateThisYear, the GoFundMe effort has received support from 223 donors, who have contributed a total of £4,434 (more than N5 million) as of the time of publication.
