Nigerian artist and composer Omah Lay, real name Stanley Omah Didia, has addressed trolls who have labeled his songs as “depressing.”
Omah Lay responded to the criticism by saying that, as he sees his music as a reflection of his feelings and experiences in real life, it doesn’t matter what label is applied to it.
In London, UK, during his interview with Beat FM. In a recent interview with The, the singer stated that he doesn’t care what name his music is given as long as people enjoy it.
He went on to say that he would never dispute the opinions of his fans on the sound of his songs.
In his opinion
“I simply create my music in the way that I see fit. I make every effort to avoid labels and all the labels that the outside world tries to place on me. Because, as my guy used to say, “you can see clearly after the smoke clears.”
“Therefore, when you relate to those items [titles and tags], it simply I simply create music, and as long as you like it, I don’t care who tags it or how you hear it. As long as you appreciate the music, I don’t mind if you think it’s Afro-depression. To it, some other people would dance.
It is artistic. I create it, then I simply step back and let everyone enjoy the planet as they see fit. I would never quarrel with the fans’ opinions because they are their own. It’s okay if that’s how they find enjoyment in it.
