The activist Adetoun Onajobi disclosed the challenges she faced following her father’s passing, claiming that hospitals and mortuaries turned away his body.
She claims that because her father belonged to the Ogboni Fraternity, hospitals refused to accept his body.
She talked about the challenges she encountered, such as the hospital’s refusal and the requirement to bring her father’s body home, in an interview with Chude Jideonwo.
Adetoun remembered her father’s passing and an armed robbery at their house during which her father managed to flee.
“The hospital refused to take his remains after he passed away, claiming that there might have been issues because of his Ogboni Fraternity membership.
As a lodge member, no mortuary or hospital could accept him. The only action we could do was to return him home. Adetoun persevered in the face of difficulties, and her father’s remains was ultimately deposited in his bedroom.
Because her father was a Methodist by birth, she also mentioned the Methodist community’s role. They did not disclose the body’s existence in the residence, nevertheless, out of concern for potential robberies given the delicate nature of the case.
The problems surrounding her father’s passing shed light on the difficulties she was dealing with at the time.
