A 17-year-old male who had just returned from the United States was taken to the hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State, following reports that he had been beaten by police in the vicinity of Jogor Center.
The victim, whose name has not been revealed, had traveled to Nigeria to see his ailing grandmother.
According to eyewitnesses, the event occurred as the adolescent and a second individual were riding bikes close to Jogor Center.
A contingent of up to five police policemen halted them.
A local named Sola Ajayi claims that after witnessing one of the officers start filming the interaction, the boy’s friend decided to follow suit in case something strange happened.
The officers’ request for reinforcement from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at the Iyaganku Police Station, who appeared to be disturbed by the video recording, worsened the situation.
The incident escalated into violence when more personnel bearing weapons came on the scene.
“The boy’s partner started filming a video in case something happened while one of the police officers was filming. Thus, the cops had already called the Divisional Police Officer at the Iyaganku Police Station before we even realized it.
They brought additional law enforcement officers. There was a Lexus 470 jeep with the DPO. Many of them had firearms. One of them even attempted to cock his gun and lost his magazine. They thrashed them while transporting them to the station in their car, according to Ajayi.
After being reportedly assaulted by the police, the victim and his brother were brought to the hospital where they are still being treated.
Because of the young man’s unusual appearance, witnesses said the police called him a “fraudster,” implying that they were discriminating against him because of his foreign heritage.
He was referred to as a scammer since his appearance was dissimilar from ours. That day, they planned to visit ShopRite. It took place on our street. It was located behind the Jogor Center. They took a shortcut when they went that way.
